Measurement of the letters' height

This transparency facilitates the precise measurements of the letters' heights; letters are made to slide within the triangular printed grid till they exactly fit into it. In connection with the position taken by the letter within the grid, the handwriting analyst records the value relating to that letter's height (measurements are usually calculated in tenths of one millimetre). In this case, the central "m" is 60 tenths of one millimetre high (that is 6 millimetres, a value which is definitely conspicuous in comparison with the usual average encountered in adult writings). By gathering several letters' measurements the expert can then calculate the height average specific to the handwriting under examination.
